The Ontario Health Insurance Plan Plus (OHIP+) program covers over 5,000 prescription drugs for children and youth 24 and under.
OHIP+ is additional prescription drug coverage that automatically applies to all children and youth aged 24 and under already covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
How does OHIP+ work?
You do not have to apply or register for OHIP+. It will automatically work if you:
- are 24 years or under
- already have OHIP coverage
- are not covered by a private health insurance plan
OHIP+ coverage will automatically stop on your 25th birthday.
What medications are covered under OHIP+?
Covered products include, but are not limited to, drugs that treat:
- asthma
- depression
- anxiety
- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- infections (e.g. antibiotics)
- epilepsy
- diabetes (including test strips)
- reproductive health (e.g. oral contraceptives)
- some childhood cancers and rare diseases

If you need an eligible medication, you can get it free of charge at the pharmacy by presenting a valid prescription and your health card.
