Bernardo, from Brazil, moved to Canada in November 2021 to escape the insecurity caused by the oppression of trans people in Brazil.
His journey to Canada was marked by challenges such as climate shock and the difficulties of integrating into a new society. Together with his partner, he had to show resilience to find his place, despite the obstacles encountered due to his newcomer status and trans identity.
Bernardo highlights the importance of services and society in general recognizing and supporting the diversity of newcomer youth, particularly those from the queer community. He recommends that people moving to Canada should be resilient, because in the end, things get better with time.
