How can the University of Toronto’s Melius Mentorship Network help me?

Melius Mentorship offers free services and resources to youth (aged 15-24) in Canada, helping them navigate post-secondary education.

What is the Melius Mentorship Network?

Melius Mentorship Network aims to help youth in Canada who are newcomers, Indigenous, refugees, or from low-income backgrounds. The program offers FREE support and guidance related to post-secondary education and careers.

The program is available during the academic school year (from September to June), providing the following services:

  • Tutoring in subjects such as math, physics, biology, chemistry, and English for high school students
  • One-on-one mentorship to discuss academic and career paths after high school
  • Advice on applying to universities and scholarships

The program matches students with mentors who are current university students or university graduates.

Am I eligible to join the Melius Mentorship Network?

You are eligible to join the Melius Mentorship Network at the University of Toronto if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a newcomer, Indigenous, refugee or low-income youth.
  • Planning to pursue post-secondary education and meet one of the following conditions:
    • Currently attending high school within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
    • High school graduate aged 18 to 24

How can I join?

To join the Melius Mentorship Network, follow these steps:

  1. Fill out the Registration Form: The link directs you to the application 
  2. Matching Process: Based on your responses, you will be matched with a mentor who aligns with your interests and goals.
  3. Start Mentoring: You can discuss your academic ambitions and career goals once matched.

I am a post-secondary student. Can I become a mentor?

Yes, all post-secondary students are welcome to apply as a mentor. Prior mentorship experience is beneficial but not mandatory.

Here's what Melius Mentorship expects from their mentors:

  • Flexible schedule: You'll provide mentorship based on the needs and goals of the student you match with. Flexibility is key to meeting these needs.
  • Commitment: Melius Mentorship’s services operate during the academic school year. As a mentor, you understand the importance of managing your own academics while assisting your students.

The Melius Mentorship Network is located in 3 different universities in Ontario:

  • McMaster University, Hamilton, ON
  • University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, and
  • University of Ottawa, Ottawa, ON.
