Program Overview

Duration: 5 weeks 
(2 weeks in classroom + 3 weeks hands on training @ Distillery District Restaurant)  

Cost: Free

Method of Study: In Person

Schedule: Monday – Friday

Age Requirement: 18 and older

Eligibility: 

• Resident of Ontario, eligible to work in the province
• Newcomers and individuals in receipt of Ontario Works are encouraged to apply.
• For the Physically able to stand for 8 hours, lift up to 30 kg.
• Proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 (defined by Health Canada as two shots) is required.
• Masks are required for any in-person training. 

Program Description

Learn all the aspects of working at a restaurant, and learn it at one of Toronto’s most popular areas, The Distillery District. This program combines 2 weeks of classroom training and 3 weeks of hands-on training at one of the Distillery District’s five restaurants.

After successful completion of the program, we will help you get a job either at the Distillery District or other restaurant in the Greater Toronto Area.

Program Details

The Distillery District hosts 5 highly rated restaurants that are led by managers and chefs with extensive experience. Fast Track Distilled gives you the chance to learn from these experts and practice what they have learnt within modern restaurants, each with their own specialty and/or focus. After successful completion of the program, you will be supported to get a job either at the Distillery District or other restaurant in the Greater Toronto Area.

You will participate in an interview to determine which jobs would best suit your personality and skills – either the front or back areas of the restaurant. The job skills that will be covered include:

Kitchen / Back
• Dishwasher
• Kitchen Porter
• Prep Cook
• Line Cook
• Bakery

Restaurant / Front
• Hosting
• Busser
• Server
• Barista
• Barback

Everyone will be trained in restaurant fundamentals like WHMIS, Accessibility Laws and Workplace Safety. There is also a strong focus on soft skills which helps participants be effective when communicating with employers, co-workers and customers.

Reminder, for in person learning, Proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 (defined by Health Canada as two shots) and masking is required.

Hands-on Experience and Certifications
This program has an extensive hands-on component to give you many opportunities to learn by practicing the skills in simulated and real situations. We also make it easy to get important certifications like Smart Serve or WHMIS.
