- Confirmation of PR and Visa Counterfoil on a Single-Journey Travel DocumentA document that CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) issues. It is given to people who do not have passports and are selected to resettle in Canada. for Resettlement to Canada
If you are an international student (or foreign worker), you need to show one of these documents (originals only):
- A work permit/employment authorization issued by CIC
- Student Authorization/Study Permit issued by CIC and a contract of employment from an on-campus employer or a student work permit (off-campus work permit or co-op work permit).

- Diplomatic Identity Card issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; for categories D, I or J and a letter of permission of employment.

You will have to provide extra (original) documents. You can find more information on the Service Canada website.

I am a landed immigrant, how I get my SIN?
Hello, thanks for this useful site!
I will arrive to Ontario with my Confirmation of PR and my Immigrant Visa. To get my SIN I saw I need a visacounterfoil. Is it a new visa that will be attached to my Passport once I arrive at the Toronto Airport? and what is the landing document? Thanks!
David

Re: I am a landed immigrant, how I get my SIN?
Hi David, Thanks for your questions. Yes, a visa counterfoil is a new visa that you will get when you arrive. It will replace your Immigrant Visa and Record of Landing in your passport.
I'm not sure what you mean by landing document. If you are referring to a Record of Landing then it is what you get prior to a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (PR).
For more information, check the Citizenship and Immigration Canada Glossary.
If you need to clarify if you have the right documents to get a SIN, you can always call the Service Canada SIN Hotline at 1 800 206-7218
Hope that helps!
