Why do I need a cover letter?
A cover letter is an important job search tool. Why?
- It introduces your résumé to a future employer.
- It is usually the first impression they will get of you.
- A good cover letter shows someone that you are interested in a job.
- You can also highlight some of your experience that will help you do the job, and encourage an employer to look at your résumé.
What are the main parts of a cover letter?
- First paragraph: Keep it short and interesting. Name the position you are applying for and how you found the job posting.
- Second paragraph: Explain how you can benefit the organization. Write about your qualifications, and highlight any skills or accomplishments that make you different from other people.
- Third paragraph: Write about any education or past experience that would make you look good to the employer.
- Fourth paragraph: Express your interest in the company. Request an information meeting or interview . Suggest how you will follow up, and thank the employer for considering your application.

Should I use the same letter for every job I apply for?
No. Personalize your letter! This means don’t use templates. Keep your cover letter brief and to the point. Don't repeat information from your résumé and explain what you can offer a company. Make sure that your cover letter has no mistakes, and don’t overuse the pronoun “I”.
