Outreach & Events Coordinator

Job purpose

The Outreach & Events Coordinator will coordinate the Toronto Green Community’s events, outreach, engagement and fundraising activities. The incumbent will respond to general queries from organizations and community members while upholding the organization’s mission, vision and values. This is a very rewarding opportunity that provides mentoring, training and development of young talent in the not-for-profit sector. This position reports to the Program Manager.
Please note that this is a Canada Summer Jobs position funded by ESDC for a duration of 7 weeks.


Plan and promote events and public workshops

Staff information booths at community and public events

Co-coordinate tree planting events and eco-workshops

Support and promote TGC Programs (RAINscapeTO and Rivers Rising walking tours)

Co-staff the Community Liaison Booth at Apple Tree Farmers Market

Distribute flyers and information to community members and the public

Conduct surveys of participants and event attendees

Perform evaluation of initiatives and of collaboration with community partners

Fulfill related administrative duties as needed including reporting on activities

Attend regular meetings with the Program Manager and provide regular feedback, including immediate reporting of arising issues or problems

Adapt to a flexible working schedule that includes some evenings and weekends


The candidate must have one or more of the following:

Experience in project management, community outreach and event coordination

Familiarity with public relations, marketing, fundraising and communications

A self-starter who is highly professional, responsible, reliable with a good work ethic

Exceptional time management, organizational and planning skills

Strong interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work independently and as a part of a small staff team

Enjoys working with members of diverse communities

Willingness to work outdoors and work flexible hours

Interest in or demonstrated engagement in environmental issues

Eligibility Conditions:

This position is funded by Employment and Skills Development Canada's Canada Summer Jobs program.

Applicants must: 

be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment

have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year

have been a full-time student in the 2015-2016 academic year

be returning to full-time studies in 2016-2017 

be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant Province of Ontario legislation and regulations

Compensation: 30 hours weekly at $11.40/hour 

Working conditions

The successful candidate must arrange for their own travel to different locations within the City of Toronto and must be willing to work within the hours of 9am-7pm from Monday to Friday, with some evenings and weekends.

Frequent walking and standing

Spend extended periods outdoors

Position may require to lift up to 20 pounds
